Speech by the Head of the Soviet Delegation (Leonid Brezhnev)

25 Jan 1972
Description: This is the transcript of a speech delivered by the general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Leonid Brezhnev. Brezhnev addresses the following issues: (i) improvements in European security cooperation, (ii) changes in the foreign policy of West Germany and France, and (iii) the treaties signed between West Germany and Warsaw Pact countries, namely the Basic Treaty, the Polish-West German treaty, and the Four-Power Agreement on West Berlin. Brezhnev also salutes the diplomatic recognition of East Germany by Asian, Latin American, and African countries and expects these developments to ease the admission of the two German states to the UN. Also attached is a German version of the same speech from the SAPMO archive (Call Number: DY 30, J IV 2/202/526).
