In the run-up of the conference, the PHP together with the Cold War International History Project (CWIHP) prepared a document reader, consisting of more than 50 documents from East German, former Czechoslovak, Romanian, and Bulgarian archives. They were obtained by PHP associates Bernd Schaefer from former East German archives, Oldřich Tůma from former Czechoslovak archives, Mihail Ionescu from Romanian archives, and Jordan Baev from Bulgarian archives, in preparation for the International Seminar on "China and the Warsaw Pact in the 1970-1980s" on 24-26 March 2004 in Beijing. They are available in facsimile of the Parallel History Project (PHP) website, www.isn.ethz.ch/php, and the Cold War International History Project (CWIHP) website, http://cwihp.si.edu. Selected documents have been translated by Karen Riechert for CWIHP.


The PHP welcomes scholarly comments of any length and in any language, provided the author is identified by name and address. They should be sent to php-team. They will appear on the website in full or edited with the author's approval. The PHP reserves the right not to publish the comments received.
