Description: This is a summary of a speech by General Pyotr Lushev at the 1989 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Bucharest on the future of the United Armed Forces (UAF). He assesses the proposals of the Warsaw Pact members for disarmament as well as NATO's reaction. Then he renders an account of the current state of the UAF and underlines the necessity to modernize the armed forces according to the Warsaw Pact's military doctrine.
