The State and Prospect for Development of NATO's Armed Forces (Presentation)

4 Dec 1978
Description: This report reviews NATO, US, and West German military and defense policy and evaluates the state and development of NATO's armed forces. It was presented by the head of Soviet military intelligence (GRU), Petr Ivashutin, during the 11th session of the Warsaw Pact's Committee of Defense Ministers in East Berlin in 1978. NATO is depicted as a powerful adversary, especially because of its nuclear weapons, its defense readiness, its means of communication and air defense, and its overall level of preparedness. Ivashutin believes that NATO is trying to change the existing strategic parity and establish NATO superiority.
