Opinion of East Germany

17 Oct 1988
Description: This East German statement discusses the publication of details on the Warsaw Pact's (WP) conventional forces against the background of ongoing disarmament talks in this field. East German Defense Minister Heinz Kessler presents his point of view during the 22nd session of the WP Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Prague 1988. He notes that NATO also plans to publish details on its armed forces, and outlines how and when they will be presented. NATO can be expected to depict the WP as superior in the field of conventional weapons, and Kessler stresses that this view has to be refuted with claims of overall parity.
