Assessment of Adversary's Intelligence on Development of Warsaw Pact Forces and Armaments

12 Jun 1989
Description: This document presents NATO intelligence on Warsaw Pact (WP) military policy, armed forces development, and armaments. It was prepared by the East German Staatssicherheit (Stasi) intelligence agency. The paper shows NATO's views regarding WP disarmament steps and suggestions. Much attention is devoted to internal Soviet discussions about a military doctrine shift towards a more defensive strategy. The second half of the document deals with the condition and development of the WP's armed forces.
