Statement by the Bulgarian First Secretary (Todor Zhivkov) on Albania

29 Mar 1961
Description: This document is a transcript of a speech by Bulgarian First Secretary Todor Zhivkov at the 1961 meeting of the Political Consultative Committee (PPC) in Moscow. Zhivkov criticizes the activities and political line of the Albanian leadership, mainly, but not exclusively, referring to the incidents at the naval base at Vlorë. Zhivkov expresses irritation at Albania's attempts to preach Marxist-Leninist principles to the Soviet Union and the other Warsaw Pact countries and supports Nikita Khrushchev's proposal to withdraw Soviet staff and supplies from Vlorë.
