Internal Military Assessment of West German Forces by the US

8 Aug 1983
Description: This document outlines the results of an internal military assessment of the West German armed forces by the US armed forces command. It was prepared by the East German Stasi (Staatssicherheit) intelligence agency. Aspects of the military doctrine, structure, and readiness of the Bundeswehr and military personnel questions are reviewed. The US authorities acknowledge the special situation of West Germany as a frontline state in a war with the Soviet bloc. West German military policy is principally assessed as being in line with the present political and military conditions.
