Report on the Meeting between the Secretary General of the CC CPSU (Leonid I. Brezhnev) and the General Secretary of the PCR (Nicolae Ceauşescu)

9 Aug 1976
Description: This document is a report for East German leader Erich Honecker on the recent meeting between Leonid Brezhnev and Nicolae Ceauşescu in the Crimea. The two leaders talk about the trends in Soviet-Romanian trade as well as the status of political relations between the two countries. Both confirm their intention to stop negative propaganda in their respective media. Brezhnev criticizes Romanian attitudes vis-a-vis the Warsaw Pact and the appearance of a neutralist position. He also states his opposition to any kind of Balkan Pact. Ceauşescu defends his records and recommends further patience with regard to China. Both leaders support an improvement in the relationship between their two countries.
