Note from British Ambassador to Moscow (Frank Roberts) to Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Apr 1962
Description: This note refers to an incident during the night of 10-11 March 1962, when East German border guards in the region of Kleinmachnow fired on an automobile belonging to the British Military Liaison Mission. The British ambassador to Moscow, Frank Kenyon Roberts, claims that the British vehicle was not in a restricted zone and had not been warned before the shooting. Roberts expresses his dismay that the Soviet Union accepts the East German explanations for the incident, which do not correspond to the British view, and warns that the statute governing the work of the MLM may have to be reviewed unless assurances are given.
