Description:
This stenographic record of the 1972 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Prague offers in full the speeches of the Romanian, Hungarian, and East German first secretaries (Ceauşescu, Kádár, and Honecker respectively), followed by a report by UAF Marshall Ivan Yakubovsky. While all speeches concern the preparation of a pan-European conference on security and cooperation, the leaders of each country offer their specific national perspectives. Nicolae Ceauşescu emphasizes the role of economic, cultural, and scientific cooperation among European states and discusses the idea of a common market. János Kádár concentrates on the type of diplomatic relations the Warsaw Pact should seek with West Germany after the ratification of the Soviet-West German and Polish-West German treaties. Honecker's position assigns special importance to the necessity for collective discussions regarding European security as far as the principles of border integrity are concerned.
