Preliminary Suggestions Concerning Resolution on the Future Tasks of the Alliance (PO(67)89)

Subject: Premieres suggestions concernant la resolution sur les tâches futures de l'alliance
10 Feb 1967
Description: This memorandum to the permanent representatives includes suggestions from NATO Secretary General Manlio Brosio with regard to the Council Resolution on the Future Tasks of the Alliance, based on dicussions between the secretary general and national delegations. It explains that the aim of the proposed study is to justify and reaffirm the alliance. Brosio emphasizes the need to make the study and its results accessible and understandable for the public. Specifically, he says the study should identify the major developments affecting the alliance since its inception and analyze their impact on the future of the alliance. He suggests that the study be entrusted to an open-ended group composed of government representatives and permanent representatives under the chairmanship of the NATO secretary general.
