Editorial Note

24 Jan 2003
Description: According to Vojtech Mastny's analysis of the 1974 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Moscow, it was not marked by success for the allies. Not only was Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev unable to obtain Romanian support for a resolution condemning China for trying to develop diplomatic relations with the US and NATO in general, but the dispute sparked further disagreements among Warsaw Pact members. As a result, the next PCC meeting did not take place until 1976, thus omitting celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the creation of the alliance.
