Protocol and Press Release

17 Dec 1988
Description: These are the minutes of the 23rd session of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Sofia in 1988. The only question discussed is the publication of statistical details on the respective force levels and armaments of NATO and the WP. The CMD agrees to release this nformation, which is also included in this document. It includes quantitative assessments of the force levels and military equipment of NATO and the WP from the WP's point of view. The WP stresses that there is a general balance of capabilities and arsenals, despite some asymmetries.
