Views on the Warsaw Pact: East German Remarks

29 Jul 1968
Description: This document is an East German memorandum on the principles of the Warsaw Treaty. The document argues that although the treaty's Article 8 emphasizes the principle of state sovereignty, Articles 3 and 5 do allow the Warsaw Pact to interfere in the internal affairs of a member country under certain conditions. The document argues that by abstaining from the earlier consultations in Warsaw, the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia has violated Article 3 of the Warsaw Treaty.
