Chen Yun's Speech at the Warsaw Pact Political Consultative Committee Meeting

27 May 1958
Description: This document is a transcript of a speech by a Chinese member of the CC of the Chinese Communist Party, Chen Yun, at the May 1958 Political Consultative Committee meeting. Yun presents an assessment of changes in the international situation, claiming that the Socialist camp, headed by the Soviet Union, has overcome the imperialist camp, headed by the US, in terms of human aspirations, population, internal unity, and the speed of production development. He juxtaposes progress in the national economic, industrial, and technological development of the Socialist countries and the economic decline, class struggle, and social unrest that supposedly mark the Western capitalist countries.
