Report Assessing the Outcomes of the Cairo Conference

5 Nov 1964
Description: The Soviet foreign ministry informs the GDR's Moscow embassy of the outcomes of the Cairo Conference of the non-aligned movement. The Soviet rapporteur predicts the growing importance of the non-aligned states in world politics. He regards public condemnations of Western policies as signals of a general trend in favor of socialist positions on global affairs, exemplified by positions on colonial issues, disarmament, and the German question adopted during the conference. The UAR President Nasser begins to gradually assume the role of the actual leader of the non-aligned movement.
