Revised Version of Memorandum from Special Adviser for Political Planning to Secretary General "Council Resolution on the Future Tasks of the Alliance" (PO(67)89)

8 Feb 1967
Description: This paper contains the revised text of the original memorandum of 31 January 1967 on the discussions of the council resolution on Future Tasks of the Alliance between NATO Secretary General Manlio Brosio, the national delegations, and the International Secretariat. Compared with the first draft, the author - NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs S. I. P. van Campen - outlines in greater detail the need to make the study and its results accessible and understandable for the public. The study is designed to identify the major developments affecting the alliance since its inception and analyze their impact on the future of the alliance. Van Campen suggests entrusting the study to an open-ended group composed of government and permanent representatives.
