Speech by the East German Head of State (Erich Honecker)

28 May 1987
Description: This is a transcript of a speech given by East German leader Erich Honecker at the 1987 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Berlin. His remarks concentrate on disarmament. He analyzes the measures taken so far and underlines the necessity for a mutual and balanced reduction of conventional and nuclear forces. He then outlines the proposition of a nuclear-free corridor and the defensive military doctrine of the Warsaw Pact. At the end of his speech, he points to the need for intensive economic cooperation.
