Memorandum of Conversation with the Commander-in-Chief of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany (GSSD) General Michail Zaytsev on 19 January 1981

Description: This memorandum summarizes talks between German Defense Minister Heinz Hoffmann and the Commander-in-Chief of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany (GSSD), General Michail Zaytsev. The discussion addressed problems caused by the GSSD, including flaws in the combined training of the National People’s Army (NVA) with the GSSD, the illicit hunting of GSSD members, and the difficulties resulting from the main GSSD airport Gross-Dölln. Also reviewed was the high number of traffic deaths caused by GSSD personnel.
