Letter from US Mission Enclosing a Letter of 4 May 1967 from US Counsellor Robert R. Bowie to Belgian Minister of State Paul Henri Spaak

5 May 1967
Description: This note from the US delegation to NATO includes a letter by Counsellor Robert R. Bowie to Belgian Minister of State Paul Henri Spaak commenting on Spaak's questionnaire on inter-allied relations. Bowie regards three areas to be of major interest for present and prospective intra-alliance relations: i) common interests and tasks, ii) factors of friction impeding cooperation, and iii) appropriate tasks for NATO to undertake. Causes of friction are the disparity in size and power and the increasing elevation of national interest over common NATO interests.
