Letter from Danish Delegation on the Suggested Outline12 Jul 1967 |
||
Description:
This letter by the Danish permanent representative, Hennig Hjorth-Nielsen, comments on the draft report submitted by Belgian Minister of State Paul Henri Spaak. It critizes that, without questioning the potential Communist threat, Spaak places too much emphasis on NATO as an instrument in the ideological fight against Communism. Rather, Hjorth-Nielsen recommends that more prominence be given to NATO's role as an instrument for the development of East-West détente. Given the Danish intention to join the European Economic Community, he urges Spaak to include the prospects for inter-European cooperation within the alliance in his final report.
