Speech by the Soviet Foreign Minister (Andrei A. Gromyko)

19 Oct 1980
Description: This is the transcript of a speech on disarmament and détente delivered by Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko at the 1980 meeting of the Warsaw Pact's Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA) in Warsaw. He confirms the principles of the Political Consultative Committee's Warsaw Declaration, according to which there is no alternative to the policy of détente. He then assesses the political positions of the Western European countries and the US with regard to the convention of a conference on disarmament and military détente. He further comments positively on the prospects for a pan-European conference on energy.
