Description:
This speech by the first secretary of the Polish Worker's Party, Edward Gierek, for the 1974 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Warsaw describes the achievements and challenges of the Warsaw Pact and states that it is spreading peace in security in Europe. Gierek holds that more frequent meetings of the foreign ministers could stimulate mutual cooperation and strengthen the unity of its members. Additionally, he offers the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the creation of the alliance in 1975 to take place in Warsaw. (N.B. The Polish text is a draft version of the speech.)
