Statement by Soviet Defense Minister Dmitry Ustinov at the CMD Meeting in Sofia

5 Dec 1983
Description: This is a presentation given by Soviet Defense Minister Dmitry Ustinov at the 16th session of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Sofia in 1983. He addresses the development of military equipment for the United Armed Forces for the years 1986-1990. In the light of NATO's plans for the deployment of missiles in Western Europe, the WP's efforts to station missiles in East Germany and Czechoslovakia have to be accelerated. Ustinov insists on closer military integration between the WP countries and argues that the defense capabilities of the WP must be strengthened.
