Speech by the First Secretary of the PZPR (Edward Gierek)

Description: This is a transcript of a speech given by First Secretary of the Polish Worker's Party Gierek at the 1978 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Moscow. It concentrates on the following issues: (i) the strengthening of Socialism and unity of the Socialist countries vis-à-vis NATO countries, (ii) implications of the Helsinki process, e.g. a ban of neutron weapons, the need for closer cooperation with the US and Western Europe and for national cooperation with all political forces, and (iii) aspects of international relations, e.g. the condemnation of China and Socialist support for liberation movements in the Middle East and Africa.
