Letter from the Indian Prime Minister (Jawaharlal Nehru) to the Indian Ambassador in Moscow (K.P.S. Menon)28 Jun 1958 |
||
Description:
In this letter, Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru informs the Indian Ambassador to the USSR, K.P.S. Menon, about the attitude of the government with respect to recent global events. Nehru interprets the Soviet intervention in Hungary and the subsequent execution of Imre Nagy as a serious impediment to efforts aimed at a reduction of tension between the superpowers. These actions have also aroused suspicion about the sincerity of previous peaceful protestations by the Soviet leadership. Nehru is worried by the rigid ideological position adopted by China and its effect on India's relations with this country.
