East German Statement (Theodor Hoffmann, Minister of Defense)

Description: This document outlines the East German view on plans for developing the Warsaw Pact's (WP) United Armed Forces (UAF) until the year 2000. East German Defense Minister Theodor Hoffmann's presentation was delivered during the 24th session of the WP's Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Budapest in 1989. Hoffmann comments on the drastic political changes in his country and their impact on the military. Nevertheless, he says, East Germany will abide by its commitments and support planning for the UAF.
