UK Defense Planning for NATO24 May 1985 |
||
Description:
This document reviews the British armed forces' planning for the years 1985-1990; it was prepared by the East German Stasi (Staatssicherheit) intelligence agency. The plans of the British armed forces are closely related to NATO's suggestions - more than two-thirds of NATO's proposals were accepted by the British and incorporated into their planning. One focus is on strengthening the conventional forces. However, not all NATO proposals can be realized, and the overall growth of military expenditure is limited as well. The planned changes are assessed in detail for each branch of the armed forces.
