Adversary's Assessment of Reliability of Warsaw Pact Forces

Apr 1984
Description: This document presents the results of a NATO assessment of the Warsaw Pact (WP) forces' reliability. It was prepared by the East German Staatssicherheit (Stasi) intelligence agency. NATO concludes that the reliability in general is high and that the internal structure of the WP forces is settled. The political leadership has overall control of the armed forces and the officer corps is loyal. Only few internal problems of the Warsaw Pact armies are discussed.
