Opinion of East Germany

5 Jul 1988
Description: This is the East German statement on the overall development of the United Armed Forces (UAF) from 1991 to 1995. It was presented during the 21st session of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Moscow in 1988. After praising the achievements in the field of disarmament, the basic characteristics of the UAF's development are discussed, including the maintenance of strategic parity with NATO, qualitative improvements instead of quantitative ones, and existing economic limitations. East Germany stresses that it will not increase the number of its military personnel and that it cannot increase military spending and construction.
