State and Prospect for Development of NATO's Armed Forces and Infrastructure in the European Theater of War in the Period up to the Year 2000 (Presentation)

5 Jul 1988
Description: This is a report on the state and development of the NATO forces and infrastructure by V. M. Mikhailov, the deputy head of the Soviet general staff. The report is given at the 21st session of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Moscow 1988. Mikhailov gives a broad assessment and says that NATO is still enhancing its military potential, that it is trying to compensate for the decommissioning of short- and medium-range missiles, and that it is further developing its military infrastructure. This is reflected in increased spending, the introduction of modern armaments, and a high degree of defense readiness.
