Speech of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the USSR (Eduard Shevardnadze) in Warsaw

Description: This document is a transcript of a speech by Soviet Minister of Foreign Affairs Eduard Sheverdnadze during his visit in Warsaw on 19 March 1986. Sheverdnadze expresses confidence about the prospect of retaining military-strategic superiority over NATO and examines potential negative consequences of the idea of a European Defense Initiative as supported by Western European countries. He also discusses the need to promote human rights and humanitarian cooperation as well as a joint Warsaw Pact proposal for the creation of a chemical weapons-free zone on the Balkans.
