Summary of the First Agenda Item11 Jul 1988 |
||
Description:
This summary presents the key findings of a report on the state and development of NATO's armed forces until the year 2000. The report was delivered during the 21st session of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Moscow in 1988. The report first addresses the current state of NATO's armed forces on the European theater of war, and secondly reviews plans for their development. NATO is assessed as having acquired a considerable potential to wage nuclear and convention war. It is believed that the Western alliance wants to extend these capabilities further to overcome the parity between NATO and the WP. Collection: Defense Ministers
