Opinion of East Germany

4 Dec 1978
Description: This report by a spokesman for the East German minister of defense addresses the state and development of the West German armed forces. It was prepared for the 11th session of the Warsaw Pact's Committee of Defense Ministers in East Berlin in 1978. West Germany is assessed as NATO's second-strongest member and the strongest military power in Western Europe. According to the authors, West German policy aims at strengthening NATO and preventing real arms reduction. West Germany is modernizing its armed forces, introducing technical and organizational improvements, and will thus be able to double or even triple its fighting power.
