Description:
This is a report by the chief of staff of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) United Armed Forces (UAF), Anatoli Gribkov, on the training and exercises of NATO's armed forces. The report was delivered at the 18th session of the WP's Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in East Berlin in 1985. Gribkov analyzes important features of NATO's exercises and maneuvers and draws conclusions about the alliance's doctrine and strategy. He assesses NATO's policy as increasingly aggressive, and believes that its ability to launch a surprise attack is growing. He draws conclusions for appropriate WP policies to respond to that threat.
