Description: This is a summary of an East German defense ministry presentation on the state and development of the NATO forces. The presentation was given at the ninth session of the Warsaw Pact Committee of Defense Ministers (CDM) in Sofia in 1976. NATO is thought to be expanding its military capabilities in terms of both quantity and quality, and is accelerating the arms race despite the current détente. NATO strives to achieve superiority over the Warsaw Pact.
