Report on Speech by Nikolai Ogarkov at a Warsaw Pact Chief of Staff Meeting in Minsk

8 Sep 1982
Description: This East German report summarizes a speech by Soviet Marshal Nikolai Ogarkov at a meeting of the Warsaw Pact (WP) chiefs of staff in Minsk. Ogarkov analyzes the current state of the world and draws comparisons to the situation before the outbreak of World War II. He addresses the sanctions imposed by the West on Poland and the Soviet Union, and asserts that NATO and the US are engaged in an undeclared war against the Soviet Union and its allies. According to Ogarkov, the US goal is to destabilize the WP countries through economic warfare.
