State of Development and Planning of US Army Europe Forces in NATO

Description: This document examines the state and development of the US ground forces assigned to NATO. It was prepared by the East German Stasi (Staatssicherheit) intelligence agency. The document assesses that NATO is of major importance to the US, as reflected by the huge contribution of US ground forces to NATO, which can be extended further within a short period of time. Additionally, the document reviews US forces' restructuring, modernization, and improvements in several parts of the US ground forces, including the nuclear forces.
