Information Report

5 Dec 1979
Description: This report on the 1979 meeting of the Warsaw Pact's Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA) in Berlin emphasizes the importance of military détente and disarmament. The Warsaw Pact foreign ministers call upon the NATO signatories to reconsider the deployment of intermediate-range nuclear weapons in Western Europe. Poland, Czechoslovakia, and East Germany present a proposal on the further institutionalization of the CMFA. Apart from the Romanian delegation, all participants agree on the need for détente and oppose the Romanian proposal for a unilateral troop reduction.
