Declaration by the Observer of the Chinese People's Republic, the Deputy Chairman of the National Committee of Defense of the Chinese People's Republic (Chen Yun)

28 Jan 1956
Description: This document is a transcript of a speech by the Chinese delegate and observer Chen Yun at the 1956 PCC meeting in Prague. Yun praises the mutual assistance and cooperation among the Warsaw Pact countries on issues of world peace and collective security. He states that East Germany's decision to build its own national army and join the Warsaw Pact United Armed Forces is an example of how best to protect national security in an environment of increasing political tension between East and West. He gives a critical account of NATO's military expansion plans and intervention in the struggle for national independence of countries in the Middle East and Asia.
