Speech by the General Secretary of the CPSU (Mikhail S. Gorbachev)

Description: This is a transcript of a speech on the political transformation of Europe delivered by Mikhail Gorbachev at the 1990 Political Consultative Committee (PCC) meeting in Moscow. He gives his consent to the reunification of East and West Germany and expresses understanding for US concerns regarding German reunification. He then assesses the future role of the Warsaw Pact for European peace and security. In his concluding remarks, Gorbachev observes that rapprochement with the US is taking place, and says both sides have similar viewpoints concerning international problems, except for the question of Cuba.
