Description: In this statement during the annual "Zapad" military exercise, Soviet Defense Minister Dmitri Ustinov provides explains the purpose of certain Soviet armaments. He argues that the RSD-20 (NATO designation SS-20) missile is meant to deliver both first nuclear strikes and subsequent strikes against strategic military targets in the West. Ustinov emphasizes that NATO has no equivalent weapons. He also mentions the aircraft carrier Kiev, designed to destroy US and NATO attack carriers and missile submarines and to provide support for amphibious landings.
