Description: This summary presents the key elements of an informal speech delivered by Czechoslovak Communist Party General Secretary Miloš Jakeš to the 22nd session of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) Committee of Ministers of Defense (CMD) in Prague 1988. Jakes comments on the current state of affairs in Czechoslovakia. He declares that the Communist Party is pursuing a reform policy in the political and economic spheres. Jakeš discusses a number of domestic problems, including economic issues, the work of the Communist Party, and tensions with oppositional groups and the youth.
