Report on the Fifth Session of the CDM

9 Feb 1973
Description: This report by East German Minister of Defense Heinz Hoffmann informs East German leader Erich Honecker about the fifth session of the Warsaw Pact (WP) Committee of Defense Ministers (CDM) in Warsaw in 1973. The CDM discussed Western propaganda directed at WP forces and countermeasures, the work and results of the WP Unified Armed Forces technical committee, and details of NATO's military exercises in 1972. Despite the present détente, the WP's military capabilities will be developed further. However, the Soviet Union alone cannot satisfy all the armament requirements of the WP members states.
