Description: This is a transcript of an interview with Czechoslovak General Miroslav Šmoldas (b. 1917), first deputy chief of the General Staff and inspector general of the Czechoslovak People's Army. General Šmoldas outlines the structure of the Czechoslovak armed forces between World War Two and the Prague Spring in 1968. He also points to the changing positions of Eastern European army attachés in Moscow before and after the institutionalization of the Unified Command and the Warsaw Pact in 1955. He further highlights the importance of the Czechoslovak arms industry and arms exports.
