Opinion of East Germany

3 Dec 1979
Description: This document presents the East German opinion regarding a Soviet peace initiative and related discussions. East German Defense Minister Heinz Hoffmann introduces this opinion during the 12th session of the Warsaw Pact's (WP) Committee of Defense Ministers (CDM) in Warsaw in 1979. East Germany agrees fully with the Soviet positions and endorses them. East Germany has taken some risky steps towards détente, including increased Western media influence and more Western visitors to the country. Hoffmann describes West European policy as aggressive and dangerous.
