Interview with Gen. por. Ing. Václav Vitanovský, CSc.

20 Nov 1990
Description: This is a transcript of an interview with Czechoslovak General Václav Vitanovský (1916-1996), who was the deputy chief of the Czechoslovak General Staff in the 1960s. General Vitanovský stresses that the staff of the United Armed Forces was only executing the orders of the Soviet Army Staff and that therefore, the planning documents regarding Czechoslovak defense were only discussed at the General Staff of the Soviet Army. General Vitanovský further states that operational planning in the Warsaw Pact concentrated on the first days of war and insists that all planning was offensive, not defensive.
