Description:
This document describes the results of NATO's regular assessment of the armed forces' development as they relate to the Greek army; it was prepared by the East German Stasi (Staatssicherheit) intelligence agency. The fulfillment of the Greek armed forces' obligations and contributions to NATO's key mission components (KMC) are reviewed. The report states that Greece is modernizing its armed forces at high speed and cost - however, starting from a weak basis. The country is involved in all key mission components, but a number of deficiencies reduce the effectiveness of its armed forces. These deficiencies are seen as a serious problem for NATO's AFSOUTH command area.
