21 May 1970
Description: This is the summary of a report by the chief of the Warsaw Pact (WP) Air Defense Troops, Marshal Pavel Batitskii, on NATO's air forces and the WP's air defense capabilities. His report was delivered during the second session of the WP Committee of Defense Ministers in Sofia 1970. He begins with a review of NATO's policies, development, and strategy in terms of air power. The air forces of NATO members are powerful and modern. Secondly, he offers an overview of the WP's integrated air defense system, its condition, components, advantages, and disadvantages, as well as prospects for further development.
